Charles Vickery - American

Wind of the Sea, 24 x 36 inches

Pacific Surf, 36 x 48 inches

North Atlantic Running Large

Seascape, 20 x 24 inches

According to a website of his work, Vickery invented his seascapes from sketches he made in various locations, so the scenes are not 'real'. Some painters of seascapes like to capture the spirit of one particular place, while for others it's more like composing visual music from their imagination. Both approaches are valid. The main thing is not to slavishly copy 'reality' - why not just take a photo.

Waves, sand and clouds are constantly changing. A plein air artist must chose what moment he captures - there is always a certain amount of designing, not just recording.
